In today’s Story, I grabbed lunch with a former student and brought in Bill Spruill, founder of Global Data Consortium, to speak with my Innovation & Entrepreneurship Capstone class.
The main message from Bill was to figure out what you’re good at, and focus on it. He argued that too many entrepreneurs waste time and effort attempting to be good at a bunch of things. As a result, they spread themselves too thin and never break through. Instead, he encouraged my students to identify what they’re best at, and focus on repeating their successes over and over again.
Hard to argue with Bill. He discovered his niche is globalized data location services. He’s had three successful exits in the industry, and he’s well on his way to a fourth.
